Close previewOkay I downloaded the map, extracted it to my maps folder, renamed it to KF-DeathPit-Remix-Final.rom, ucc compress to the RedirectURL, delete steam_appid.txt, start killingfloor.exe, main menu > host > maplist configuration, and it doesn't appear in the list of inactive maps. Huh. Select a different map, click DEDICATED.
Start WebUI > Defaults > Maps, it does not appear in 'Maps Not In Cycle' or 'Maps In Cycle' lists
Start another killingfloor.exe, join my server, vote for map change and NOW it does appear. After I vote for it, it says "KF-Deathpit-Remix-Final has won!" and then the server crashes.
Unless you can point me to a server on which this map actually works, I'd have to conclude it just doesn't work. The 6 other custom maps I have installed so far work flawlessly.
I just checked out Kf-DeathPit-ReVamp.rom from kf dot ut-files dot com and that one works as you'd expect. It also is credited to Fel on the selection screen. A search for 'KF-Deathpit' on the tripwire forums has a thread about 'Kf-DeathPit Final', but the download site didn't work for me. At the time Remix Final was uploaded, that thread might not have been up.
I'm starting to wonder just how many versions of DeathPit there are. It's certainly a good concept to learn mapping with.
I do like the idea of terraces in a funnel as shown in the screenshots. Any help getting this version to work would be appreciated. :-)
If something is named <whatever>-REMIX, I'd assume it is based on prior art. I'd think that by analogy to electronic music, where remixes are usually done by someone OTHER than the original artist. A map called 'KF-Crash-Remix by DeathLoop' would not mean that DeathLoop is claiming authorship to KF-Crash.rom.
However, if your map is distributed without a .txt in the archive specifying name of the author, or it doesn't show the author's name on the map selector or on the loading screen, how would the guy doing the remix know who is the author?
Anyway, I have a problem with this map, I copy it to my killingfloor\Maps\ folder, but it won't show up in the list of selectable maps, either in killingfloor.exe or the WebUI.
Why might this be?

HOLD ON DUDE! Dont take this the wrong way man, i had no idea who map it was, i just edited it and added stuff to it man! If you want me to give you full credit for it then i will, matter of fact now since i know your the one that mad it ill go back and put your name as the aurthor!
I create maps of my own but also edit maps of others too, but if i had of known earlier then i would have ask you could i edit it, but i had no idea who made it.
The main thing is that i'm sorry for editing your map without your say man, and im totally sorry for what i did!
I in no way ever claimed it as my own in any way or form, and im totally sorry for it ok.
I actually look up to you a lot, mainly because you make great mission maps.
But if i had of known that you made it i would have asked to edit it, but i had no idea.
I would greatly be thankful if we put this incident aside, and for now on if i even come up with a idea for editing your map, then ill ask you, ok Fel.

Ha are you going to try and take my shitty map it yours?
DeathPit-Remix_Final is a lot bigger than Deathpit!
It has a large maze surounding it, with the Deathpit a.k.a "Hell" at its center, BEWARE dont jump in because if your do you'll know why they call it The Gates of Hell!
Feel free to download it and test it out!
Tell me about any bugs you might find or come across, any suggestions or ways I can make it better and I'll do my best to fix it!
